Basic SEO Tips: The Foundation & Getting Started (Tips 1-5)

Too Many Experts. Not Enough Teachers.

Every SEO company on the market says “we can get you to page one.” Almost none of them teach their clients how or why. They want to control your emotions into always having to rely on them for their services. Spunk Marketing does not believe in this method. Clients pay good money for professional services; there’s nothing wrong with explaining some things as you go along. “Teachers” have always been more favorable than “Account Managers” in my opinion. That’s just who we are.

Providing understanding to your clients is the best way to keep their business, and your referrals will go through the roof.

If you have ever heard anybody say that they know everything about SEO, then they’re probably not being honest. The fact is that out of all of the SEO gurus out there, less than .0001% know everything there is to know about SEO, and most of them work for Google or Yahoo!

What Is Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

SEO is the use of basic and advanced techniques used to help your website show up in organic search engine results. This means that more people will see your website, which means that more visitors will visit your site. At the end of the day, the purpose is for you to generate more customer leads.

Organic Search Engine Results are results that are not generated by pay-per-click. They are generated “naturally” according to your website’s content.

Getting Started

1 ) Planning: Plan your foundation SEO and website marketing strategy before you get started on developing your website. You’ll highly regret it if you wait until you’ve already started to start thinking about your strategy.

2 ) Keyword Research: Hire an SEO company to do some keyword research for you, or manually do it yourself by typing in your target keyword phrases. Write down some of the companies that show up in the results and shop their website’s content, layout and strategy.

3 ) Keyword Preparation: Make a list of 5-10 keyword phrases that describe your products, services and company. Include locations if you are targeting a local customer. Do not use single word keywords, use 2-3 word phrases for best results.

Example: If you were a homebuilder selling new homes in Atlanta; you would want to use “Atlanta New Homes” as your keyword phrase. You wouldn’t just want to use “homes” as that could target someone looking to rent homes, sell homes, paint homes, sell appliances for homes, etc. Target your keywords to generate qualified customers. Make sure that you are using keywords that are actually being searched.

4 ) Writing Your Content: Pre-write the content for your website and include your keywords and keywords phrases throughout the content. Try to use one keyword phrase per paragraph. Do not overuse the keyword phrases. Google could blacklist you for doing so. Include keyword phrases on every page.

5 ) Linking Keywords in Your Content: Use keywords and phrases in your content, and link the text to other pages on the interior of your website.

For Example: If you had the sentence “Damascus Homes builds new homes in Atlanta and is dedicated to serving you” you would want to link “new homes in Atlanta” to your services or sales page. Do not direct more than one duplicate content link to the same page. Google will catch this as well.
